Subject: Family Camping Trips Keep Em Safe &
Active
_______________________________________________________
Hello there,
A favorite family activity during the summer for
many families is camping. If your family heads out
every year on a camping trip or even if you’re
thinking of heading out on your first outdoor
vacation this year, we’ve got some tips to keep your
little ones safe and your older children occupied.
Here are a few tips to help keep your kids safe
during your camping adventure.
Pack a First-Aid Kit
This may seem like a no-brainer, but when you’ve
got tents, sleeping bags, and all kinds of other
things to pack, it’s easy to forget the first-aid kit.
Be sure it’s the first thing you put in your
bag…better yet, keep one in the car all the time so
you’ll already have it there. Don’t forget to add the
bug spray and allergy medicine…the woods are full
of critters and plants that can cause allergic
reactions.
Be Prepared for the Heat
Smaller children tend to overheat quicker than their
older siblings, so be sure to pack plenty of hydrating
drinks and spend the warmest part of the day in the
shade. Save the hiking part of your trip for early
morning or evening when they sun isn’t as hot.
If you’ve got older kids, just because they don’t
have their computers or video games to keep them
busy, doesn’t mean they can’t still have fun. Here
are a few ideas that will keep the trip eventful and
fun for them.
Load up the iPod.
Before you leave, have your children load up their
mp3 player with plenty of music and movies. If
there is a lull in family activities, they’ll be able to
entertain themselves for a bit.
There Are Plenty of Fish in the Sea
Don’t forget the rod and reels. The whole family can
head to the lake for some fishing or, if your child is old
enough and the water is close by, he or she can fish
on their own.
Take a Hike
Again, if they are old enough, your children can go
on mini-hikes with friends or another adult. Just be
sure you give them a specific area they can go and a
time to be back to the campsite. Also, be sure to
talk with them about safety before they set out.

Plan ahead, stress
safety and be prepared and the
whole family will have a great camping trip this
summer. One last thing…the computer probably
won’t work in the woods, so leave it at home and
enjoy the break! :)
Take care,
Alice & Mila
