How amazing would it be to go on a safari holiday? Can you imagine sitting in a jeep with a tour guide being driven around Kenya in search of wild animals. If you did happen to meet a lion or a tiger, you can be sure it will be a great story to tell your friends.

Safari holidays are notoriously known for being very expensive; some even over five thousand pounds. In saying that you will have the time of your life. Now that the global economy has been hit a little hard, although your spending money has come down a bit, so has the cost of these holidays. When you are preparing yourself for this holiday, just be sure to check that you have all the essentials, like a mosquito net and that you have had your jabs.

Safari holidays offer us the wildlife up close and personal. In Africa you can enjoy the land, and all that nature brings with it. Safari holidays are very different to your average beach holiday. Trying something that others around us haven’t done is the best way to make yourself feel different and like you have achieved something.

If you want to take a risk and try something exciting this is definitely one of those things to do. Kenya holidays and Tanzania holidays, both offer safari locations. These holidays are created to allow you to get close to the wildlife around you. Safari holidays in general are run really well, and everyone seems to have a great time. Safaris are always described as the “unforgettable” time of your life. Zambia holidays also offer a Safari trip for it’s visitors, so you don’t have to go on two week safari, just try a one day trip.

So go on Safari and delve into the territory of the Lion. Enjoying yourself is one hundred percent guaranteed. If you are going on Safari make sure that you check to see what you need to take with you. This once an adventure for royalty, now its for all of us to enjoy.

Well you can be sure that at some point you will see the “Big Five”. The reason these animals got the name “The Big Five” was because hunters in the 1800’s believed them to be the hardest to catch and the most dangerous.

The proud pride owner the Lion. The Lion is but only the second largest of the Big Cats, but Tigers aren’t present in the Mara. Lions in general are keystone predators which means they hunt and take down their own food, rather than scavenge, although if the opportunity arises they will take it. The Lion however has in some instances become a man eater, they have been seen on occasion to actually stalk Man as prey.

The ever majestic African Elephant. The elephant is the biggest of these big five and this is clear when you hear it weighs on average 5 and half tonnes, and stands at about 12 and a half feet tall. When you see an elephant its quite easy to accept its large, but when you think even it’s 4 teeth are each twelve inches long and weigh 5 kilograms, it’s a lot more to take in. One of the amazing things about the elephant is that the tusks can grow up to 2 and a half metres long.

Then there is the Cape buffalo. This animal is one of the preys of lions that are actually pretty good at defending themselves; they have even been known to kill lions as well. The Cape buffalo is regarded as one of the most dangerous animals in Mara; it is a very short temper and is reported to have killed about 200 people every year.

The Black Rhinoceros. The Black Rhino has not been all that well named, unfortunately it was due to the name of the White Rhino that the so called “Black Rhino” received it’s own. The Black and the White Rhino are practically indistinguishable by colour. The White Rhino was actually a mistranslation from the Dutch word “Weit”. The literal meaning of this word actually means Wide, this was because the White Rhino had a square like structure to it’s lip, but the Black Rhino had a pointed lip.

Finally the Leopard. This is the smallest of the Big Cats, but is by no means the slowest. The Leopard is not really noticed for the fact that it can reach a massive 36 mph on the ground, and that it can jump up to 3 metres vertically into the air. Also the Leopard is the best Big Cat swimmer and by far the best tree climber.

The Serengeti National Park has a mass of different animal species and is very beautiful. It can be found in the north west of Tanzania and encroaches into the south east of Kenya. This location is host to many wonders for us to marvel at. Why don’t we have a look at the most famous points of the Serengeti and also some of the not so well-known ones.

The word Serengeti is actually derived from the Maasai language meaning “endless plains”. The Maasai people were a very strong tribe and they populated much of the Serengeti, when the Europeans came to the land of Tanzania, they left many of the animals alone because they didn’t want to annoy the Maasai people. The term Serengeti fits this national park very well because it has an area of just over 30,000 kilometres squared.

The main event that the Serengeti is famous for is the Circular Migration. From July to early October is the time span in which this Circular migration travels. Many different herbivores numbering at about two million will travel across the Serengeti and over the Mara river catching the rains they need to survive. They continue up into the Masai Mara reserve, a popular destination for Kenya holidays and safaris.

The Serengeti also has its very own active volcano called Ol Doinyo Lengai. This Volcano still erupts spewing up and up massive clouds of ash that solidifies on the ground and prevents plant growth`. In the Serengeti there are over five hundred and fifty Avifauna, also known as its geographical bird species.

If you are interested in going on a safari, this is one of the places that should be at the top of your list. If you make in at around August to September you will be in the peak season to see the Circular Migration in action.

So why don’t you leave home and embark on an adventure on Tanzania holidays or Zambia holidays, you won’t be at all disappointed.
