The old capital city of Bulgaria is Veliko Turnovo. It is famous with its numerous historical sites. Its geographical location is what makes it so impressive. It is situated in the lower parts of the Balkans, on top of many hills, which are surrounded by the Yantra River. The houses are in amphitheatrical order in both the old town and the new town. The view from the bottom of a hill is gorgeous – the houses look like they are on top of each other.

The city is visited by thousands of tourists. It is interesting not only with its geographical location, but with its cultural heritage too. The three historical hills – Tsarevets, Trapezitsa and Sveta Gora are the most visited sites by tourists, who usually are unaware of the proximity of numerous cave formations in the surroundings of the city – caves and holes with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. Their count is surprisingly large – the caves are over 90 and the speleologists or random passers-by still discover unknown so far caves and holes. Part of them are examined and are available for tourists and others are yet to be discovered by enthusiasts of adventures and speleologists. An ordinary tourist can stop by and have a fulfilling holiday, alternating passive with active holiday and have an unforgettable adventure while admiring the nature. There are hundreds of caves and holes in the region, so it is hard to choose which ones to visit. For your ease, here are some of the most famous caves and holes for tourists to visit:
Emenska cave, Troana, Ruse 213, Bambalova cave and 12 more holes, all situated in the Emen village, Veliko Turnovo region. Sustainable Tourism

For sustainable tourism, we need to protect the cultural environment as well as the natural environment.  We need to respect local cultures and ways of life, and contribute positively to local communities.

The potential negative effects of tourism are both local and global… but by practicing green tourism, the harm we cause will be minimized.

If we’re not careful, we’ll degrade the environment and the cultures we travel to see.We need to consider that local businesses depend on tourism profits where ever we go.  If you go someplace because there are wonderful native handicrafts, you need to buy some of those handicrafts from locals, so they get the money.

If you’re visiting a national park, you need to employ locals as guides so they will continue to value and protect the park.  Those are the kinds of things that make for sustainable tourism.

Here are some more things to think about when choosing a hotel, a tour group or activity…..

Is the hotel locally owned and operated so that the profits stay in the community?  If not, is it at least staffed by local employees?

How does the hotel contribute to the local community?Does the restaurant’s fruit and vegetables come from local farms?  Do they sell local handicrafts in their gift shop?

If you’re taking a tour, travel with a tour operator who is environmentally responsible.  Smaller group sizes make less of an impact… and make for a more enjoyable tour for you!

Is the group lead by a local guide?  Does the tour company contribute to the local community in some way?  To have sustainable tourism, the local community needs to benefit; not just some global tour company.

Don’t get off the trail when you are hiking.Stay well away from any wildlife you come upon… for your safety AND for theirs.  “Leave only footprints”… carry your trash out or use trash bins.

If you’re snorkeling or diving, don’t touch the coral.  Be careful with your fins, it’s easy to kick the coral if you’re not paying attention or to stir up sediment.  Either way you can damage the reef’s fragile ecosystem… and reefs around the world are now in danger, so all need our help.

Try to buy local products…  You’ll support the local economy… and we all need that now no matter what country you’re visiting.  Foods will be fresher, give you a taste of local cuisine and save fuel because they haven’t traveled half way around the world… only YOU have!Less imported goods will be required.

Don’t buy souvenirs or other products made from endangered animals or plants.Customs will probably seize anything made from protected animals and you don’t want to hasten the extinction of any species!

Treat locals with respect.  You went there to learn about their culture!Know several words… at least hello, good-bye and thank you.  Be open to our cultural differences.  Read up on the area you’ll be visiting so you’ll know how to dress so you don’t offend anyone.  Check to see if there are any behaviors or gestures that will offend your hosts.

Rejoice in our positive differences.  Support them, and you’ll be contributing to sustainable tourism.

A promotional video that shows a couple of kids playing on a beach next to some open water in Canada has been found to be a fake which was in fact shot in the UK.

The footage was part of a new promotional package that had been commissioned by the Alberta tourist board costing around $25m. It was intended to show the best features of the Alberta province in Canada and increase levels of Canada holidays in the region. However, when keen sailor Peter Bailey investigated the location as a possible site for spending time on his boat, he found out all was not as it seemed. His initial thoughts were that the beach was on the edge of one of Canada’s vast lakes but a North Sea coast in England turned out to be nearer the truth. Confident that the middle of Alberta was at least 300 miles from the Pacific Ocean and 450 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, Bailey thought he should let the relevant people know.
Peter alerted the Northumberland Tourism Board of the issue and they saw the funny side. “ we think it’s quite humorous – Canada presenting one of it landlocked provinces as an Island” Said Sheelagh Caygill. Most of the Northumberland public were not upset but rather flattered about it. commenting that they are flattered that Canada consider the area good enough for their film.

Bailey also took his findings to officials in Ottawa and they took more of a defensive stance. It was used only to “symbolise the fact Albertans are a worldly people” argued a spokesman.Head of media relations for the Prime Minister, Tom Olson stated “There’s no attempt to mislead here. The picture used just fitted the mood and tone of what we were trying to do.”

Spokesman have stated that although the English part of the film will remain, there is now a footer note included that credits the UK tourist board. The situation has left a number of senior officials slight red-faced but they it will not be occurring in future. Among other promotional works that Canada has recently released include one for Alaskan cruises therefore there will surely be people keeping an keen eye out for passing flamingos in the Alaskan cruises footage
