East London is the only river port in the country of South Africa because of its location on the south-eastern coast of Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It lays between two rivers on both north and south i.e. Nahoon and Buffalo respectively. Not only the location but the easy way of living as well as an earnest sense of hospitality of the locals will win your heart and make you feel like being at a home away from home. Another enchanting factor about this place is the sub-tropical climate, which can make you feel more relaxed, especially with the warm waters of Indian Ocean. You will not even have linguistic problems as English is generally understood and also spoken in many areas, despite IsiXhosa being the local language.
The Gonibu Beach
25 Kilometres north of East London is the Gonubie Beach. It is connected to East London by the n2. The blue flag status had been given to Gonubie Beach. Only beaches that meet crucial standards in environment protection provide safety equipment and personal on hand are given this prestigious international award. A scenic wooden boardwalk, passing man made tidal pools and lush native vegetation separates the main parking lot and the beach.
Nahoon Beach
If you are searching for a beach that is not crowded and that caters to many different interests such as surfing, fishing and sun bathing, you may want to consider Nahoon Beach. It is located in East London and is named after a Xhosa chief who was from the local area. In addition to offering many kilometres of beautiful and unpolluted sand, this beach is the home of a surfing club and it sponsors surfing competitions.
Orient Beach
Are you looking for a safe and lovely beach in London this summer? Then you want to head for the Quigney suburb and go down to the southern end of the Esplanade there to find Orient Beach. It’s a favourite of tourists and locals alike. The harbour has breakwaters that protect the cove and there are lifeguards there too, so you can take the whole family and swim in safety. Add to that the two circular swimming pools surrounded by green lawns and you have bathing and swimming room for thousands of people. In season, there are changing facilities, a refreshment kiosk and many restaurants close by. Add to that the hotels and shops on the Esplanade and there’s not much that’s lacking for you at Orient Beach.

The Aquarium
The Friends of East London Aquarium, the oldest aquarium in southern Africa that the public can visit, opened on December 2, 1931. One of the aquarium’s goals is to help marine animals that have been injured due to pollution or other unfortunate circumstances. Many animals are rehabilitated and returned to their homes in the ocean every year. Another of the aquarium’s goals is to educate the public about the ocean’s eco system so they can understand and respect it. In the aquarium there are big, beautiful, illuminated fish tanks that feature local fish.
Visitors enjoying a seaside holiday in East London will undoubtedly want to return time and time again after viewing the migration of the stunning Southern Right whales. As they move southwards along the coast of southern Africa toward their arctic feeding grounds, the whales often linger offshore near East London. Magnificent bay views of the whales may be seen from the aquarium’s eleven metre platform, situated directly above the surf itself.
