Churchill is on the shoreline of the west coast of Canada. Over the past few years this has become one of the most sought over environmental holidays. This could mean that it is in danger from excessive pollution?

Churchill is most famous for its population of Polar bears, who visit every year around autumn to escape the receding ice flows. These polar bears head inland and invade local towns and villages such as Churchill to find refuge. The nickname, Polar Bear capital of the world, came from the fact there are so many of these cuddly creatures. This has helped boost the tourist industry around the area, and now tour operators offer Canada tours dedicated to this area, to show people the stunning environment.

Churchill is an area known as an Ecotone. An Ecotone is a environmental phenomenon where there is an abrupt change in environmental circumstances. Basically it stands on a border between three very different environments. They are the Boreal forest to the south, the Tundra climate to the north east and the Hudson Bay to the north. If you have never seen the Aurora Borealis then this one of the best places on the planet. Not only does this area have all these attributes, it is also home to the Beluga whales in summer, over 57,000 of them, and has a very extensive amunt of bird fauna that cover the whole area.

Because of all the surrounding species and the Polar bears, Churchill needs to rely on the tourist industry heavily. The simple way to put it, is that Churchill is on the border between three dramatic climate and environmental differences. This will cause the tourist industry to crumble. Canada holidays benefit greatly from this environmental phenomenon, but how much longer will it last. Alaska Cruises also circle round to this area, so maybe that holiday is better sooner rather than later.

Churchill is located on the far west coast of Canada. Over the past few years this has become one of the most sought over environmental holidays. If there was a dramatic change in climate, surely this would damage Churchill?

Churchill has become extremely popular and famous around the world, mainly because of the polar bears that travel inland during autumn. The polar bears then ram around as they want to, taking over Churchill. The fact that there are so many polar bears coming to here, means it has adopted the name, Polar Bear capital of the world. This has helped boost the tourist industry around the area, and now tour operators offer Canada tours dedicated to this area, to show people the stunning environment.

Churchill is an area known as an Ecotone. When you have several environments or climates close together, this is called an Ecotone. Churchill is on the border of three of these extremely different climates. To the southern region is the Boreal Forest, towards the north west you will find the Tundra like conditions, and directly to the north is the Hudson Bay area. This is one of the best locations in the world to see the Aurora Borealis. Not only does this area have all these attributes, it is also home to the Beluga whales in summer, over 57,000 of them, and has a very extensive amunt of bird fauna that cover the whole area.

Churchill has become extremely reliant on the tourism industry, but how long will it be able to support tourists. This means that is is in between three different environments and climates. There wont be any reason for people to visit here anymore, so the tourism sector will fail. Canada holidays benefit greatly from this environmental phenomenon, but how much longer will it last. Alaska Cruises also circle round to this area, so maybe that holiday is better sooner rather than later.

I have just come back from a holiday in Canada. I know that doesn’t sound technically correct. Well actually yes I did, sort of. Basically I wanted to rent out a car and drive from Vancouver to Winnipeg. We had three areas in mind across Canada that we had to visit. The one in the middle was Calgary.

In Vancouver is where this holiday started. Although i had read a lot about this area, it looked a bit different to how i had thought about it. This city is different to any other in the world. Surrounded by snow and green trees with little iceberg tops, this scenery is stunning. No matter what time of day or night, there is always something to do.  What a way to start our Canada tours.  As a further note i have arranged for Vancouver holidays for the rest of my staff as well.

Then there is a 450 mile drive to Calgary, we decided to just go for it so we could spend s good amount of time in there. We drove through Kamloops on the way, but didn’t have enough time to stop. I was absolutely shattered, we arrived in Calgary and just went to sleep for a while. Lucky for us something called the Calgary Stampede was going on. This is a massive event that they hold each year and is often referred to as the greatest outdoor show in the world. The best way to explain it is; this is a place for cowboys, then afterwards a nice circus event, where they have all kinds of dangerous acts. This is a holiday that anybody could enjoy.

We then embarked on our final 600 mile drive to Winnipeg. We had to go to the Millennium Library, one of the most famous in the world, filled with a huge array of books. After we had visited some of the sites like the Winnipeg art gallery and the Manitoba Museum, we knew it was time to leave. Neither me or my wife think that we had been on a better holiday before this.  Alaska Cruises also do something like the fly drive, only all you have to do is relax.

Fancy a holiday to Canada, try Vancouver!

Vancouver is just on the coast of Canada. Before the City of Vancouver was built, there were indications of Aborigines from about 10,000 years ago. Vancouver is home to many different cultures, over 50% of whom have a first language other than English.

In 1858 Vancouver was not yet established, but almost 26,000 people walked over it in search of the Fraser Gold Rush. in 1863 a wood mill was created and this and a pub was all that Vancouver consisted of, however it was a very key area for the rest of Canada providing the railways with wood. Alaska Cruises have become very popular travelling through Canada and parts of America.

Vancouver was incorporated on April the 6th in 1886, and named so to honour George Vancouver, the naval officer who was a famous explorer. Interestingly though only a few months later a fire broke out and the entire city was razed, it was rebuilt very quickly after this. The overall growth of Vancouver has been significant, but over twenty years after its establishment, it grew by 10′000%.

At the end of the 1920’s the Great depression got under way. Skilled workers missed out the most, they were extremely badly affected by all of this, they were taken to internment camps. The people had enough of these camps and marched out, heading towards Mission City. There was one problem, Mission City was ready and waiting for them, the train carrying all the people was met by a rather large Gatling Gun.

Vancouver is now a great tourist destination, with a wide range of arts and cultures celebrating many different festivals. Vancouver is home to all kinds of sports arenas and some quality sports teams. Canada tours usually travel through this wondrous city. Why not try Vancouver holidays this year and discover the history of Canada.
