When you mention of Penang gets people raving about their food. It’s a known fact that Penang homes some of the best street food in Malaysia and some even travel all the way to Penang for a total food feast! Then there are the ones who love the sun, sea, and beach who will tell you about the wonderful times they had at the beach. If not at the beach, they’d be exploring the island’s many cultural and historical landmarks to feed their curiosity about the 16th century colonization of the British.
The feeling is strange when you see Penang. Its leisure, business, and history all emerges into one and you just feel a complete holiday within days! It has everthing anyone wants here.
A lot of tourist go to Fort Cornwallis. It’s a good place to start a tour and end up with a delicious meal on Pulau Tikus or Penang Road. For dinner, the Gurney Drive is a popular favourite with all kinds of food available to suit each and everyone’s palette. If you have more expensive taste, Batu Ferringhi is home to some of the most well known restaurants in Malaysia, namely Eden for Asian dishes and seafood, and The Ship for a good western steak or lobster meal.
You will be pleased with the number of night activities as Batu Ferringhi has a night market selling all sorts of bits and bobs. You don’t have to shop for anything but strolling up the street is entertaining enough for most.
The languages used in Penang are Malay, English and Hokkien. Other languages and dialects can be spoken here too but may not be as used as the first mentioned three. Most locals are friendly so don’t be afraid to approach them recommendations.
