The great time of year has once again hit us with the sun out and birds singing, people want to look at getting away. The media have always said that vacations are suffering a huge amount and folk are not really going to be travelling as much this year. But is this all the truth?

Despite all the negative economic talk, more and more people are booking and going on holidays. Despite the strength of the currency, Europe is still the main attraction for holidaymakers, with just over 40% of those surveyed saying they will be going somewhere on the continent this year. It is also said that tourists will be spending exactly the same amount of cash that was spent in previous times.

Holidays are slightly down and this is probably due to all of the media hype behind it all, I can guarantee that if it was not so hyped up in the media then people would not have a clue that we were in any type of recession. As we already know UK holiday bookings are up a drastic amount so could this possibly be the reason as to why the media have publicised the credit crunch so much? Is it possibly to scare people into staying and holidaying in the UK so that they pump money back into the economy, instead of spending it overseas.

Whatever the reason, people are ignoring warnings and still going abroad; there is a huge amount of enquiries for overseas destinations such as Turkey and Egypt. If you took another look at the situation you will come to realise that taking a break in the UK would probably be more expensive then going abroad.
